Sesame Street: Batty Bat

Sesame Street: Batty Bat

[COUNT PLAYING ORGAN] COUNT: [SINGING] In old Transylvania, when I was
a lad, our castle was cold yet we never were sad. We learned to be happy, we’d
dance ’round the hall, and learning to count was
the key to it all. By counting each count, I knew
just where to start, and one special step has stayed
close to my heart. Ha, ha, ha. One, two, three, spread
out the cape. One, two, three, twirl
round the floor. One, two, three, left
foot you swing. One, two, three, then
start to sing. One, two, three, loud
as you please. One, two, three, counting
with ease. One, two, three, doing
the batty bat. BATS AND COUNT: Batty
batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. One, two, three, count. Batty batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. One, two, three, count. Batty batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. One, two, three, count. Won’t you dance with me
doing the batty, bat? COUNT: Ha, ha, my happy
childhood in the Carpathian Mountains, how well
I remember. So now in my own castle I can
enjoy this wonderful dance that I learned as a boy. I see just how wise was
my whole family. They taught me to count, and
so now we look at me. I’m counting and dancing and I
swear that it’s true, if you do the same you will
be happy, too! Come, we try again. One, two, three, spread
out the cape. One, two, three, twirl
round the floor. One, two, three, left
foot you swing. One, two, three, then
start to sing. One, two, three, loud
as you please. One, two, three, counting
with ease. One, two, three, doing
the batty bat. BATS AND COUNT: Batty,
batty, bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. One, two, three, count. Batty batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. One, two, three, count. Batty batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. One, two, three, count. Dance with me doing
the batty bat. Ah, ha! Batty batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. Batty batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. One, two, three, count. Batty batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Ah, ha, yes! [SQUEAKING] Batty bat. Batty batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. [INAUDIBLE] Batty batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Yes, yes! Batty batty bat. Batty bat. Batty bat. Batty batty batty bat! Oh, come dance with me
doing the batty bat.

This song makes me wince, not because it's bad, but because I sang it nonstop for like a week, and I could only remember half the words.

Few know that Count von Count was not actually a puppet, but actor Judd Hirsch covered in felt. This is why the Count is 99.999% Jewish and 0.0001% Hungarian

I loved this when I was a kid! I still have it on VHS. ^_^

Also… how little todayโ€™s kids know! Itโ€™s not called โ€œdabbingโ€, itโ€™s called โ€œThe Batty Batโ€! X,D

My childhood favorite song! When I was little me and my little brother got towels and danced like bats those were the days.

They just dont make music, sesame street and Tv like they used to. This was a classic. I was 3years old in the 80s and it was old then. C.L.A.S.S.I.C only people thumbs downing is the current generation. They don't know real music or tv.

This is taken from Sesame Street Elmo says boo Sesame Street 25th birthday a musical celebration and even sesame street dance along I hope this is taken from Sesame Street a magical Halloween adventure

I'm here from the Netflix Sabrina the teenage witch… watch it and you'll know why, lol (this song immediately came to mind!)

They just donโ€™t make kidsโ€™ shows like this anymore. Shows with a good balance between educational and entertaining, that is. Most shows nowadays seem to have too much of one or the other.

Fun fact for those who stumble across this comment: Did you ever notice the lining of the Count's cape? It's covered in buttons. This is a callback to the very basis of his character: One way to escape a vampire is to scatter a large amount of buttons, seeds or any other small object before them–for whatever reason, they'll feel compelled to try and count every last one, giving you ample time to flee and keeping the vampire there until sunrise or whenever they get bored and give up.

I remember when this came one (I had a VHS with this on it), I HAD to go get a towel so I could flap my 'wings' and dance along to this. One of my best memories.

0:11–0:14 I ate 4 dozen eggs every morning to help me get large. And now that Iโ€™m grown, I ate 5 dozen eggs, so Iโ€™m roughly the size of a BAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEE!

How do you like my comment?

"Our Jamie Oberek," or "Our Jamie's Oberek," with the Slavic beat this has to it, sounding just like the Polish folk dance oberek(pronounced oh-BEAR-ik). Ha, ha, just had to say that.

I want this to be my wedding song. I'm not joking. I'm 48 and never married but this is so flipping funny. I would also like Left from Sesame Street Gangsters – An Plan be my best man…even though I'm a woman. Thank you to the writers and creators of Sesame Street. Also, I love Ernie so much – he has been my #1 since I was a little girl. A lot of my friends still ask me if Ernie is my favorite. I had an Ernie flat doll and I still write 'Merry Christmas, love Flat Ernie'. Everyone in my family knows how much I love him and I have other Ernie dolls, puppets, etc.

you guys have NO IDEA what this video means to me!! Like…i literally remember watching this as a child with my brothers

Have you ever considered a crossover with the Disney show Vampirina? The Count could visit the Scare B&B and maybe he and Boris know each other. Just a thought.

My GlamBaby loves this song. She is 18 months. I'm 40 and I cant get it out of my head. I cant believe I didn't get to see this song when I was little. I must of been outside playing in the hide and seek with my friends. Lol

Seasame Street is the only place where a vampire teaches you the joy of counting and human anatomy through the use of gypsy music. I love Jim Henson and all those puppeteers that made this possible! Seasame Street is so awesome!
